Ola’s Million EV Milestone Marred by Soaring Warranty Costs

Warranty expenses far exceed competitors and stay well above legacy automakers, prompting concerns for investors and buyers alike.

On the surface, Ola Electric is a long way ahead of its rivals. This month, it became the first firm in India to reach the milestone of producing 1 million EVs — 1.5 times the volume of its nearest competitor TVS Motors.

But behind the manufacturing feat is a disquieting statistic: Ola Electric tops the sector in warranty outlays, by a considerable margin. Even as warranty payouts have become a yardstick for strain among electric two-wheeler startups in India, Ola’s figures are notably high.
