Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled design sketches of its forthcoming electric hatchback, the Concept Three, ahead of its official debut at the Munich Auto Show set for September 9 to 14, 2025. The concept previews the production-bound Ioniq 3, which is being positioned as Hyundai’s counterpart to the Kia EV3.
The Concept Three employs a design language Hyundai terms the “Art of Steel.” Drawing influence from the Ioniq 6 sedan, the hatchback features an extended roofline, a ducktail rear wing, and bold elements like a front splitter and narrow wraparound headlights. Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Centre, said the project gave the marque an opportunity to “rethink the compact EV from the ground up.”
The Ioniq 3 will ride on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). At launch, it’s expected to offer a single front-mounted motor producing 201 hp, with battery options of 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh. Production is planned to commence in the third quarter of 2026 overseas.
In European markets, Hyundai intends to market the Ioniq 3 as a zero-emissions substitute for conventional hatchbacks such as the i20 and i30, directly challenging rivals like the Renault 5 E-Tech and the forthcoming Nissan Micra EV.
Inside, Hyundai is developing a new infotainment system that will enable customization of ambient lighting and audio profiles tied to driving modes. Additional technical specifics and production schedules are anticipated at the world premiere next week.
